D.O.T
What is the Dot-A-Day D.O.T all about?
Being Grateful, Sharing your grateful heart with others by showing them kindness. Encouraging and Inspiring each other.
As we age life changes, sometimes for the better, but more often than not it's for the worse. We might face new challenges, our health fails us, we lose loved ones, we have to move, we don't have quite enough money to live the way we are used to. The list goes on and on.
What does that have to do with being grateful you ask?
When we focus on helping others it helps us. We see how much we really have, how fortunate we are. We become Grateful for what we do have.
The Dot-A-Day helped me through a hard time as silly as that may sound. As I was sitting around sulking, I came across an older textile artist that was quietly going along creating a bit every day. She had a very simple way of doing things, with no judgments. I reached out and with her encouragement I started taking my moms clothes apart that I had saved after she passed, and created a very random memory quilt. One thing led to another and using her Paperless Piecing Technique I started stitching circles to squares. They were mindless little works of art. I stitched them on to the squares and started embellishing them. I made hundreds of them, not sure what I would do with them but that didn't matter, I was creating again.
Back to my story... I felt old and purpose-less, Why bother trying new things, why bother with a lot of things. Not a pleasant way to live. A friend of mine would send me links to show me other older women who were not giving up, they were reinventing themselves and often in BIG ways. I was starting to get excited... Then I thought of my mom, who lived to be 98 years old and was always active helping others in one way or another, She made hats for the homeless, THOUSANDS of them! I decided to stop feeling sorry for myself and start moving.
I was missing community too, other creative people, and went back to YouTube after 4 years of being dormant. I made up my mind that I would create a wonderful community of like minded older people and we would Create and Shine together. I would Encourage and Inspire them and they me.
So naturally when everyone loved the Dot-A-Day stitching project that I eventually shared on YouTube I realized just how much so many of us needed to "Keep Moving, Just Play, No Rules and Find Something to Be Grateful for Today."
And now to Share with and Encourage even more people I decided that this small Random Act of Kindness using the Dots was just the thing.
